Crafting with Beautiful Bulk Flowers
The holidays are a time to reboot, relax and get ready for the year ahead. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to detach from your phone and be more present, why not try jumping into new projects and crafts? Exercising your creative side with hands on projects can ease stress, boost happiness and help you slow down from the businesses of your life and the online world. Taking on new projects and crafts can help with focus, concentration and help you enter into meditative and zen space. "When we are involved in (creativity), we feel that we are living more fully than during the rest of life” (Csikszentmihalyi, TED Talk 2004). Now, when connecting craft with beautiful, fresh flowers, there can be even more benefits to your happiness. Having fresh flowers around your home can boost your mood and happiness, boost your memory, reduce stress and even help you sleep.
Although at first it may be tricky to get out of your same old routine and into the crafting mindset, purposely setting aside a couple of hours a week where you work on a new craft or project will help you get into a routine. It can be a great way to get your family involved as well, whether it is into crafts or other activities, setting aside the time to log off and concentrate on something else can do wonders. So, put the phone down, log off your work computer and dive into this DIY craft project with the use of beautiful flowers.
DIY Dried Flower Crafts
There is something so beautiful and bright about using real flowers in crafts. Although many crafts using real flowers have a short life span, when using dried flowers, they can be pressed and kept looking bright and new. Try creating this dried flower garland that you can drape over your mantel or down a banister.
Supplies
- Dried flowers, large seed heads, grasses, wheat
- Twine
- Scissors
- A branch
Steps
- Cut 5 equal sections of twine. The length will vary depending on where you plan to hang your garland.
- Trim your flowers into small sprigs with an inch or two of stem.
- Tie a loop at one end of the twine.
- At about 2-3 inches from the top loop, tie a double knot around the top section of the stem. Try to tie it under a set of leaves.
- Repeat tying flowers at intervals apart from each other. You can space them as close or as far as you want.
- After you have made 5 garlands, it’s time to hang them on the branch. Slip the loops over the branch, spacing them a few inches apart.
- Cut another 2-foot length of twine. Tie onto each end of the branch.
